Dude, you awake? I literally just finished playing Guard Up! and I cannot sleep. It’s 11 PM and my brain is still buzzing from this game.
So, you know how someone told me Guard Up! was like, "be a hardened security officer, check bags, find hidden items"? And I was like, okay, sounds kinda boring but I'll try it. That description is SO WRONG. It’s like describing pizza as "bread with toppings." Technically true, but completely misses the point.
This game is not about being a robot security guard. It's about people. Like, real people with stories and secrets. The first time I played, I was in this place called "The Gilded Gates," super fancy, right? And this old lady, Mrs. Henderson, comes up. Her ID was fine, but the scanner flagged her purse for "unregistered fauna." I was ready to be all official, but she looks at me with these big, sad eyes and pulls out this tiny, fluffy white cat, Mittens. She was just trying to sneak her pet into her hotel room because she missed her. My gut was like, let her go. And I did! But then later, I saw her talking to some shady looking dude, and I was like, wait, was Mittens a distraction?! You have to make these weird, human choices.
It’s not just about finding contraband, it’s about reading people. There was this one guy, "Smiling Steve," always had a too-big grin. He’d try to sneak in like, a tiny drone disguised as a water bottle. Your brain just starts picking up on the tells. The little 'thunk' sound when you find something hidden is so satisfying.
I'm not usually into these kinda simulation games, but this was different. It's like Papers, Please, but way more lively and with actual consequences that feel personal. I played way longer than I meant to tonight. I looked up and it was like, 10:45? I started at 7! Because every choice feels important, and you actually want to see what happens next. It’s really clever how they did that. I even told my cousin Mike he needs to get it.
Honestly, it’s just fun. Really, really fun. You gotta try it, your gonna love it. Anyway, just had to tell you. My brain is still trying to figure out if I made the right call letting that one dude with the suspicious-looking hat pass. Night!
